Automation Engineer - County Clare. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Develop, test and install PLC and control software as part of a highly-automated, complex, high-volume production environment. Provide support to the Maintenance Teams in the plant to resolve machine faults that require complex diagnostic capability to resolve. Upgrade the electronic control systems on machines to increase machine speeds and diagnostic capability of the Operator Interface, make informed decisions on hardware and architecture selection. Provide project schedules to Project and Production Managers for all new upgrades. Prioritize multiple tasks while working to tight schedules. Integrate Automated Measurement and Test Systems to machines such as Lasers, Vision, Robotics, Servo-Motors and Electrical Test systems. This involves PLC, HMI, Robotic programming and close co-operation with Process Engineers. Develop high quality right-first-time PLC and HMI code development strategy from Functional and Detailed Design Specifications. Cover a broad range of technologies where high-speed mechanical, electrical & electronic systems interact. Engage with machine and equipment suppliers & New Product Development Teams to review the control system design on new equipment being ordered. Validation of new equipment and train Technicians on all aspects of the process including safety and Best Practice. Ensure that the automated processes are providing accurate POEE Data to the Data Collection system. Lead/ provide technical support on cost and technical improvements on Lean, Six Sigma & Continuous Improvement projects. Requires a high level of creativity in the research and application of new automation technologies to deliver the required level of innovation & provide solutions for process improvement projects. Problem solving ability is critical to this role. New Products and New Product Processes are liable to change / experience problems. The extent and range of the problems that arise require a systematic approach, such as Lean Six Sigma or other problem-solving skills ools that enable root cause solutions to be adapted. Key Skills and Competencies required: Ability to develop, debug and validate Control System software programs. Strong analytical skills in gathering data from operations groups, defining work problems and working with operational teams to design effective solutions to resolve problems. Ability to organize, plan and execute multiple tasks to tight schedules. Highly motivated self-starter. Ability to document own work clearly and precisely. Strong problem-solving skills. Hands-on knowledge of PC software such as MS Office and statistical software such as Minitab. Excellent communication skills. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent degree. At least 5 years' manufacturing/process engineering experience, and experience working with automated control systems. Proficient in creating electrical schematics. Strong PLC background in Omron, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Siemens S7, TIA Portal, Pilz Safety PLCs, HMI & SCADA.
