Senior Design Engineer- County Clare. Primary Job Purpose & Function: To design, develop and test new products for customers worldwide. These may be in the medical device, automotive or industrial markets. To document the engineering aspects of new products and record them on the database. To support the factory-based production issues and queries that involve product design or improvements. Involves sustaining support of existing products. Main Duties & Responsibilities: Responsible for product modifications, according to customer and internally driven requests. Conception of new products based on customer and marketing requirements. Carries out product design as part of a multi-functional team. Responsible for the production of CAD models & component drawings to production departments and the release of such to the database. Carries out problem analysis using a variety of techniques, with the assistance of the team, and makes recommendations. Analysis of designs using DFMEA, FEA and Tolerance Analysis tools. Assist in the testing of the components in conjunction with test lab personnel. Assist in the preparation of screen test parts and conduct various screen tests. Customer support and project visits when required. The Design Engineer has the authority to decide the basic product design to meet the customers product requirement needs with the support of the design team. Daily interaction with NPD Manager or Engineering Lead. The Design Engineer is focused on completing project actions per customer and factory needs. Interested applicants should have: • Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline. • Minimum 5 years' industrial experience in a similar role and environment. • Understands and applies fundamental engineering concepts, practices and procedures. • Familiar with high volume production and assembly processes and their impact on product design. • Fully proficient in all aspects of CAD systems, DFMEA, FEA procedures. • Fundamental understanding of plastic moulding, metal stamping and electroplating technologies. • Thorough knowledge of drawing layouts and dimensioning in accordance with engineering requirements. • Understands the importance of document control and engineering data administration. • Thorough knowledge of engineering materials. • An analytical capability which lends itself to problem solving. • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
